SCOTTIE - Sweet Rock N' Roll / Don't Hold Back (United Artist 1976) A great tune by another British obscure outfit. "Sweet Rock 'n' Roll", penned and produced by Pierre Tubbs, is a pure glam/pop tune with an unforgettable guitar riff. Enjoy!
As the keyboard player it's nice to know that some people appreciate that recording. Just a pity that Pierre Tubbs wanted us to be a Bay City Rollers copy - a million miles from the band's musical roots, image and sound. Back then, in 1976, unknown bands basically did what they were told to secure studio time
My Dad, the bassist Ian Graham...agrees! He says the band was more suited to that of Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers and the like and we’re often accused of being that close the original recording (as a covers band) they would even play a ‘scratch’ if they found it in the record!
Sounds a little like the Bay City Rollers. Good stuff!! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteamazing!
ReplyDeleteBrill! My Dad was the guitarist in this band when this was released!
ReplyDeleteGordon Apicella (Vocals) , Ian Graham (Bass) , George Stuart (Drums), Jim McCansh (Guitarist) , Martin Stern (Keyboards). Great band.
Deleteis there any picture of this band around?
